Key Storylines
- Quarterback uncertainty for Minnesota: J.J. McCarthy is recovering from an ankle injury, and though he’s practicing again, his status remains in flux. Carson Wentz may be thrust back into a starting role and would face the team he started his NFL career with.
- Eagles trying to right the ship: After a 4–0 start, Philadelphia has stumbled with losses to the Denver Broncos and New York Giants. Their offense has not looked sharp in their recent losses and their defense struggled against the Giants in Week 6. The sudden retirement of defensive end Za’Darius Smith adds more problems for the Eagles’ pass rush.
- Vikings defense vs. Eagles run game: Minnesota’s defense is one of the more disruptive front sevens in the league. The return of linebacker Blake Cashman from IR could help fortify their run defense, which will be tested by Saquon Barkley and Philadelphia’s rushing attack.
- Motivation and momentum: The Vikings had an interesting stretch with international travel and then a bye week over the last two weeks. Those unusual circumstances come at an interesting time before a game against the defending Super Bowl champs.
Quarterback Play
Jalen Hurts has eight touchdown passes and one interception this season. He’s also capable of producing offense with his legs, especially in short-yardage situations. But his recent performances have been lackluster and he will try to clean things up here.
Backup quarterback Carson Wentz may get the start in the place of the injured JJ McCarthy. Wentz has experience and could manage the game, but there is a ceiling for the Minnesota offense when Wentz is under center.

Final Thoughts
This should be a close game and will be one of the more interesting games of the Week 7 slate. We will learn a lot about both of these teams, but I think that the Vikings have the upper hand at home. Philadelphia is struggling on offense lately and their defense is losing key players at a time when they can’t afford it. I’ll go with the Vikings as a home dog to hand the Eagles their third loss in a row.
