Sinner avoids several of the most dangerous title threats until the later rounds and has a cleaner projected route than Djokovic or Zverev. The draw does not hand him the title, but it gives him the most stable championship path.

Biggest threat outside the top seedsStefanos Tsitsipas

Jannik Sinner gets the nod as the projected 2026 French Open men’s champion. He arrives as the No. 1 seed, has a manageable opening against French wild card Clement Tabur, and does not appear to face a true title-level clay threat until the latter stages of the tournament.

The draw is not completely soft. Sinner’s section includes Lorenzo Darderi, Matteo Berrettini, Corentin Moutet, and Arthur Rinderknech, so there are possible early complications. But compared to the bottom half, where Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz, Arthur Fils, and Alexander Zverev all sit, Sinner’s route looks cleaner.

The biggest threat in Sinner’s half may come from the more open second quarter. Felix Auger-Aliassime is the top seed there, but Francisco Cerundolo, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli, Christian Garin, and Lorenzo Tien all make that part of the draw unpredictable. Cerundolo stands out as the best value player because his clay-court profile gives him a realistic path to the quarterfinals or semifinals if the higher seeds wobble.

From a tennis betting perspective, Sinner is the safest favorite. The question is whether the market has already priced him too short. If his odds moved significantly after the draw, the better angle may be pairing Sinner as the outright pick with smaller positions on Cerundolo or Tsitsipas as draw-driven value plays.

Best R1 Match

Wawrinka vs. Fils

Player at Risk

Arthur Fils

Quarter 1 – Jannik Sinner’s Section

Players to know: Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Bublik, Lorenzo Darderi, Matteo Berrettini, Corentin Moutet

Best first-round match in this quarter – Marton Fucsovics vs. Matteo Berrettini

This is a dangerous early match because Berrettini is far more accomplished than his unseeded status suggests. Fucsovics is physical enough to drag this into a tough match, but Berrettini’s serve and forehand make him a genuine bracket threat if he is healthy.

Dangerous unseeded player / floater – Stefanos Tsitsipas

Tsitsipas is the clear floater in this quarter. He opens against Alexandre Muller and could quickly become a major problem in a section that also includes Tallon Griekspoor, Matteo Arnaldi, and Ben Shelton. If Tsitsipas finds rhythm on clay, he is more dangerous than his draw position suggests.

Biggest upset alert – Ben Shelton vs. Daniel Merida — Upset risk: Medium

Shelton is the higher-profile player and the No. 5 seed, but clay-court matches can get uncomfortable if he is forced into longer rallies and return games. Merida is not an easy opening-round opponent if Shelton starts slowly.

Projected fourth-round matches

SectionProjected Match
Sinner sectionJannik Sinner vs. Lorenzo Darderi
Shelton sectionBen Shelton vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas

Projected quarterfinal – Jannik Sinner vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas

Quarter winner prediction – Jannik Sinner

This is a favorable draw for Sinner because the biggest names in his quarter either have questions on clay or must navigate dangerous early matchups. Tsitsipas is the player who can make this quarter interesting, but Sinner’s consistency, return game, and baseline control make him the clear favorite to reach the semifinals.

The key early test is whether Berrettini or Moutet can create chaos in Sinner’s immediate section. If not, Sinner should move through the first week with less damage than several of his main title rivals.

Quarter 2 – Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev’s Section

Players to know: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli, Francisco Cerundolo, Brandon Nakashima, Cameron Norrie, Gael Monfils, Christian Garin

Best first-round match in this quarter – Hugo Gaston vs. Gael Monfils

This is not the highest-level match on paper, but it is one of the most interesting first-round matches from a crowd and atmosphere standpoint. Two French wild cards meeting at Roland Garros should create one of the livelier early-round environments in the draw.

Dangerous unseeded player / floater – Christian Garin

Garin lands near Lorenzo Tien and could become a problem in a part of the draw that also includes Flavio Cobolli and Daniil Medvedev. He is not a title threat, but he is exactly the kind of clay specialist who can make a seeded player uncomfortable.

Biggest upset alert – Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Daniel Altmaier — Upset risk: High

This is the clearest early upset spot among the top seeds. Auger-Aliassime is the No. 4 seed, but Altmaier is a dangerous clay opponent and has the patience to make this match physical. If Auger-Aliassime is loose with errors, this could become a serious first-round problem.

Projected fourth-round matches

SectionProjected Match
Auger-Aliassime sectionFelix Auger-Aliassime vs. Cameron Norrie
Medvedev sectionFrancisco Cerundolo vs. Daniil Medvedev

Projected quarterfinal – Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Francisco Cerundolo

Quarter winner prediction – Francisco Cerundolo

This is the most open quarter in the men’s draw. Auger-Aliassime is the highest seed, but he has a tricky opener against Altmaier. Medvedev is always dangerous because of his defensive skills and experience, but clay remains his least convincing surface.

That makes Cerundolo the value player in this quarter. His opening match against Botic van de Zandschulp is not easy, but the path becomes very interesting if he gets through it. He could face the winner of Gaston vs. Monfils, then potentially Medvedev. On clay, that is a winnable sequence.

This quarter feels more like a betting opportunity than a straightforward bracket section. The top seeds are vulnerable, and Cerundolo has the profile to take advantage.

Quarter 3 – Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev’s Section

Players to know: Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Jakub Mensik, Tommy Paul, Mariano Navone

Best first-round match in this quarter – Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs. Novak Djokovic

This is a fascinating opener because Djokovic is chasing another major title, while Mpetshi Perricard brings a huge serve and home interest. On clay, Djokovic should be able to expose the movement and rally tolerance gaps, but as a first-round matchup, this has more volatility than Djokovic would have wanted.

Dangerous unseeded player / floater – Mariano Navone

Navone opens against Jenson Brooksby and sits in Alex de Minaur’s section. He is not a household name for casual fans, but he is dangerous on clay and has the game style to turn early rounds into long, physical matches.

Biggest upset alert – Alex de Minaur vs. Qualifier – Upset risk: Medium

De Minaur is the No. 8 seed and should win his opener, but this is a section where the draw can get uncomfortable quickly. Navone, Mensik, Etcheverry, and Rublev all make this quarter physically demanding. De Minaur’s path is far from clean.

Projected fourth-round matches

SectionProjected Match
De Minaur sectionAlex de Minaur vs. Andrey Rublev
Djokovic sectionCasper Ruud vs. Novak Djokovic

Projected quarterfinal – Andrey Rublev vs. Novak Djokovic

Quarter winner prediction – Novak Djokovic

This is not an easy draw for Djokovic. He opens against Mpetshi Perricard, could run into Casper Ruud in the fourth round, and then may have Rublev or de Minaur in the quarterfinals. For a player chasing a record-extending 25th major title, this is a difficult road.

That said, Djokovic still has the best big-match profile in this quarter. Ruud is a major threat on clay, Rublev can blast through sections when he is confident, and de Minaur’s speed makes him difficult to finish off. But if Djokovic gets through the first few rounds without spending too much time on court, he remains the pick to come out of this section.

From a betting standpoint, this quarter is tricky. Djokovic may not offer much value if the market still treats him like a top-two favorite, but he is also hard to fade entirely given the way he manages Grand Slam draws.

Quarter 4 – Alexander Zverev’s Section

Players to know: Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Arthur Fils, Karen Khachanov, Ugo Humbert, Jiri Lehecka, Stan Wawrinka, Pablo Carreno Busta

Best first-round match in this quarter – Stan Wawrinka vs. Arthur Fils

This is the best first-round match of the men’s draw. Wawrinka brings the Grand Slam pedigree, Fils brings the French crowd and rising-star profile, and the winner lands in a section that could produce one of the tournament’s most interesting runs.

Dangerous unseeded player / floater – Stan Wawrinka

At this stage of his career, Wawrinka is not someone you project deep into the draw by default. But as a first-round opponent, especially against a younger French player carrying expectations, he is dangerous. If he beats Fils, the entire bottom section of the quarter becomes more open.

Biggest upset alert – Arthur Fils vs. Stan Wawrinka – Upset risk: High

Fils is seeded, playing at home, and has the higher long-term ceiling. But this is a brutal opener. Wawrinka still has the one-handed backhand, the power to dictate points, and enough experience to make this uncomfortable if Fils gets tight.

Projected fourth-round matches

SectionProjected Match
Fritz sectionTaylor Fritz vs. Jiri Lehecka
Zverev sectionArthur Fils vs. Alexander Zverev

Projected quarterfinal – Taylor Fritz vs. Alexander Zverev

Quarter winner prediction – Alexander Zverev

This is the toughest quarter in the draw. Fritz has a manageable opener against Nishesh Basavareddy but could run into Alex Michelsen, Gabriel Diallo, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Thanasi Kokkinakis, or Lehecka before the quarterfinal stage. That is a difficult route.

Zverev’s path is also dangerous. Benjamin Bonzi is a reasonable opener, but the Fils-Wawrinka winner could become a major fourth-round obstacle. Add Khachanov and Humbert to the section, and there are very few soft pockets here.

Zverev is still the pick to win the quarter. He has been close at Roland Garros before, including being one set from the title in 2024, and this draw gives him a difficult but navigable path. If he reaches the second week in strong physical condition, he should be favored to come through this quarter.

Projected Final – Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev

Winner: Jannik Sinner

Sinner’s projected path is cleaner than Zverev’s. Zverev may have to deal with Fils, Fritz, and Djokovic before the final, while Sinner’s toughest test before the semifinals may come from Tsitsipas. That gap in draw difficulty matters.

Best and Worst Draws

Best Draws

PlayerWhy
Jannik SinnerAvoids Djokovic, Zverev, Ruud, Fritz, and Fils until the final or semifinals and has a manageable first week.
Francisco CerundoloLands in the most open quarter, with vulnerable top seeds and a clay-friendly path.
Stefanos TsitsipasDangerous unseeded player with a realistic route to the quarterfinals if he beats Shelton.

Worst Draws

PlayerWhy
Novak DjokovicOpens against Mpetshi Perricard and could face Ruud, Rublev or de Minaur, then Zverev before the final.
Daniil MedvedevDraws a tricky clay section with Cerundolo, Garin, Monfils, Gaston, and Cobolli nearby.
Arthur FilsGets Wawrinka in Round 1 and could face Zverev before the quarterfinals.

Betting Picks After the Draw

Main Betting Picks

Pick TypePlayerReason

Best valueFrancisco CerundoloLands in the most open quarter and has the clay game to exploit it.
LongshotStefanos TsitsipasUnseeded but dangerous, with a real path to the quarterfinals.
FadeDaniil MedvedevTough clay section and possible Cerundolo matchup before the quarterfinals.

Additional Betting Angles

Pick TypePlayerReason
Best semifinalist betFrancisco CerundoloHis quarter is open enough to create value if the price is still long.
Best quarter winner betCerundoloBetter clay profile than several players seeded above him in this section.
Best player to reach QFStefanos TsitsipasThe draw is difficult but playable if he handles Shelton.
Best first-round upset betDaniel Altmaier over Felix Auger-AliassimeAltmaier is a dangerous clay opponent and Auger-Aliassime’s opener is tougher than his seed suggests.

The draw should push the market slightly toward Sinner, while making Djokovic and Zverev’s paths look more complicated. The key betting question is whether the odds have fully adjusted to Cerundolo’s opportunity in Quarter 2. If his outright price remains long, he is one of the more interesting draw-based value plays.

For first-round betting, Altmaier over Auger-Aliassime is the upset that stands out most. It is risky because Auger-Aliassime is the No. 4 seed, but the matchup is far less comfortable than the seed gap suggests.
