Key Storylines
- Los Angeles enters this game at 6‑3 and in contention in the AFC West. But their injury list is getting longer and longer as the year goes on. Offensive lineman Joe Alt recently went down for the season and that could be a massive loss when going against TJ Watt and the pass rush of the Steelers.
- Pittsburgh’s defense rebounded from a couple of rough weeks in Week 9. They forced six turnovers and held the league’s top offence to just seven points through three quarters in a win over the Indianapolis Colts. They will try to put Justin Herbert through what they put Daniel Jones through last week.
- Pittsburgh QB Aaron Rodgers is producing respectable numbers this season. But his air yards per attempt are among the lowest in the league. Pittsburgh’s passing game has been somewhat conservative with Rodgers at the helm but that has worked just fine for them thus far.
Quarterback Play
Justin Herbert is having a strong campaign for the Chargers. He has thrown for 2,390 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Rodgers has 1,692 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He is clearly past his physical peak but he has done a fine job of moving the ball for Pittsburgh this year.
The big questions for the quarterbacks in this game are whether Herbert can avoid being pressured constantly and whether Rodgers can generate enough offense down the field to trouble the Chargers’ defense.

Final Thoughts
The winner of this game will be ahead of the loser in the AFC standings by the end of Week 10. I think that the Chargers will be that team. But I also think that the margin in this game will be just a point or two. I’m going to take the points with Pittsburgh and expect that their pass rush will make things difficult enough on Herbert to prevent the Bolts from pulling away.
