Key Storylines
The dominance of the Michigan Wolverines has been the story of this tournament so far. Michigan has won every game they have played in this tournament by double-digits, including a landslide victory over the Arizona Wildcats in the Final Four on Saturday. The Wolverines had over 20 points off turnovers in their semifinal victory, but may not be able to rely on as many mistakes against a disciplined UConn team.
Speaking of UConn, they held off a late charge to beat the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday. Tarris Reed Jr. was again the star for UConn in that game, scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to help offset some struggles shooting from the outside for the Huskies. The question for UConn will be whether Reed can have another big game against the size that Michigan possesses, though the size of Illinois didn’t do much to slow him down.
Another massive story is the health of Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg. Lendeborg played just five minutes in the first half against Arizona due to a combination of foul trouble and injury issues. He was reportedly dealing with a knee sprain and an ankle injury, but looked excellent when he was on the floor. As long as Lendeborg can play, Michigan should like its chances to finish the job and win the title.

- Tarris Reed Jr. has had a breakout tournament for UConn and will need to be at or near his best for the Huskies to cut down the nets after this contest.
- Silas Demary Jr. had seven assists in the semifinal for UConn and his ball distribution will be a must for getting Michigan’s stout defense out of its comfort zone.
- Braylon Mullins was 4/7 from three-point range against Illinois and hit the game-winner against Duke in the game before that. His outside shooting could determine whether or not UConn has a chance in this one.
Michigan Wolverines
- The aforementioned Yaxel Lendeborg has been an impact player all tournament long. His health status will help shape this contest from a competitive standpoint.
- Aday Mara broke 20 points in the semifinal against Arizona. Staying out of foul trouble will be huge for Mara, as he will factor prominently in Michigan’s plans to slow down Reed.
- Elliot Cadeau had a dreadful shooting game for Michigan in the Final Four. He has to play within himself to avoid shooting the Wolverines out of the natty.

I took Michigan to win the championship once the bracket was released on Selection Sunday. I’m sticking with that decision in the title game and laying the points with the Wolverines. Lendeborg looked find when he was on the court for Michigan in the Final Four, despite his injury concerns. As long as that remains the case here, I think Michigan has enough size and strength to bother Reed and enough shooting to create separation en route to the national title.
