But they are also 0-2 and looking to get themselves back on track after a two-touchdown loss last week to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Calgary has been competitive through two games and has received solid play from quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and running back Dedrick Mills. The concern is that the Stampeders have repeatedly hurt themselves with penalties and have struggled to finish close contests. That becomes even more problematic against a BC team that rarely wastes scoring opportunities at home.
Still, the Lions are off to a concerning start of their own after giving up 41 points to the Ti-Cats last week. There is an argument to be made that the Lions will look much better this week in their home opener. But I’m left unconvinced by a defense that was torn up in Week 3 and hasn’t had much time to patch up their weaknesses for this West Division tilt.

The foundation of this parlay is for the Stampeders to get a win on the road. Vernon Adams hasn’t been all that explosive yet this year, averaging under 250 passing yards per game. But he also hasn’t thrown an interception yet this season. And with Dedrick Mills ranking second in the CFL in rushing for the Stamps through two games, mistake-free football from Adams should be enough to help the Stamps win here.
The over is attractive because Calgary’s offense has shown the ability to generate explosive plays. BC also remains capable of producing points in bunches, with Nathan Rourke leading them to plenty of points, even if the BC defense has struggled early on. Both offenses have enough playmakers to push this game into the high 50s or even the 60s.
Calgary Stampeders vs BC Lions Game Preview
One of the biggest storylines entering this contest is Vernon Adams Jr. facing the franchise where he spent several productive seasons before joining Calgary. Adams has been one of the bright spots for the Stampeders during their difficult start. Through the opening portion of the season, he has completed 64.9% of his passes for 493 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions while adding production with his legs.
Adams has also benefited from a productive ground attack. Dedrick Mills has rushed for over 200 yards, while scoring one touchdown. Calgary’s ability to establish the run has helped keep opposing defenses honest and opened up some opportunities downfield.
Unfortunately for Calgary, self-inflicted mistakes have been a recurring issue. Penalties were a major factor in the overtime loss to Saskatchewan, and those errors become magnified against a BC team that thrives on capitalizing on extra opportunities.
The Lions entered the season with championship aspirations and are once again built around Nathan Rourke. Rourke remains the centerpiece of an offense capable of scoring from anywhere on the field. His accuracy, mobility, and ability to stretch defenses vertically make BC one of the league’s toughest teams to defend.
BC also benefits from playing inside BC Place, where crowd noise frequently creates problems for opposing offenses. Calgary’s offensive line has generally performed well, but dealing with a loud road environment while trying to avoid pre-snap penalties presents an additional hurdle.
So far this season, the Lions have yet to get a win, and the question going into this game is whether their defense can step up to help them get into the win column for the first time. Being at home should help with that, but another poor defensive showing would neutralize any home-field advantage they could hope to enjoy.
I think this will be a tight game and my projections make it pretty close to a 50/50 matchup. But I give the Stampeders a slight advantage, as Adams has been careful with the football, while the BC defense doesn’t give a ton of reason for confidence just yet.
