The Steelers were the final team to qualify for the playoffs, winning the AFC North in dramatic fashion over the Baltimore Ravens. Can Pittsburgh hold serve at home, or will the Texans use their elite defense to advance? Here, I attempt to answer that question with my Texans vs Steelers prediction for Monday night.

Key Storylines

• The Steelers needed a win in Week 18 over the Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC North and make the playoffs. They got that win with a late touchdown on a blown coverage by the Ravens, followed by a missed field goal as time expired from the Ravens. Pittsburgh isn’t likely to get similarly generous defending from the Texans in this contest and the Steelers will have to score on their own to get the win here.
• Houston had a great season on defense to propel themselves to a 12-5 record and the top Wild Card spot in the AFC. Houston allowed 17.4 points per game, the second-fewest in the NFL this season (Seahawks). They will be on the road here, but defense can travel better than offense in the playoffs in most cases, and the Texans will hope that is the case here.
• The quarterback matchup in this game will be a fascinating storyline, as veteran Aaron Rodgers leads the Steelers up against one of the bright young stars in the game in CJ Stroud. The experience edge goes to the Steelers and Rodgers, but Stroud might be better player at this stage of their careers.

Quarterback Play

CJ Stroud dealt with a concussion and a slow start to the regular season. But he turned things around nicely and helped the Texans to win nine straight games to lock up the fifth seed in the AFC. It will be fascinating to see how Stroud performs in the playoffs here, as he has a losing record in the postseason early in his career.

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t great for most of this year, but he led the Steelers to do just well enough to make the playoffs. His final drive to get Pittsburgh into the playoffs was clutch and a sign that he still has the magic in him at times. But that magic might not be enough at his age and against such a good Texans defense.
