- Both teams sit at 4-3, but Marshall’s offense has been more productive on a per-game basis. Coastal Carolina’s inconsistency on offense continues to limit their upside. The Chanticleers are 3-1 in the Sun Belt so far this season, but they will need to put together a great game offensively to avoid a second conference loss here.
- The winner of this game will stay at just one loss in the Sun Belt for the season. With James Madison being unbeaten in conference play and in the same division as these teams, a second conference loss would be devastating to the postseason hopes of either team in this contest.
Quarterback Play
Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson has been a difference-maker this season. He’s thrown for 1,133 yards with 12 touchdowns and only one interception. His composure and accuracy have helped Marshall become one of the more efficient passing teams in the Sun Belt.
Coastal Carolina’s Samari Collier has struggled to find rhythm in the passing game with just over 150 passing yards on the year and two touchdowns. But his rushing ability adds an extra dimension to Coastal’s offense. Collier has rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns, including two rushing touchdowns against App State in their last game.

Final Thoughts
This will be an interesting game given how different the two offenses involved are. Marshall is capable of stretching the field vertically on a more consistent basis than Coastal Carolina. But the Chanticleers have a quarterback who is better equipped to make plays with his legs and keep defenses off-balance in that way.
Regardless of the outcome of this game, I think it goes over the total on Thursday night. Both of these teams have been involved in high-scoring contests of late and that should continue here. Look for Marshall to do the majority of the scoring, but for both of these teams to do plenty to push this important Sun Belt matchup over the total.
